Victorian Tea Party….

The Tea Party that Somewhere in Time, Unlimited (of Seattle) held on December 15th was awesome!  Thank you, thank you, thank you to Bobbie and Joan for all the hard work organizing such a great event.  The accounting of all the many individual deposits made by each lady as well as the multiple calls to Queen Mary’s to change the number of people actually attending, must have been overwhelming.  Many thanks too go out to the queen herself, Mary, of Queen Mary’s Tea Room which is located near University Village here in Seattle, Washington.

The place was festively decorated, the food most delicious, the service was outstanding and the ladies enjoyed themselves tremendously!

At this moment of time, we are already considering doing another High Tea, but this time, instead of telling everyone to come wearing “whatever” for a hat and outfit, organizers are coming up with more guidelines.  Perhaps it’ll have more of a Victorian or Edwardian flare.  I can only HOPE!!!  Many of the ladies have such beautiful costumes which they’ve sewn.  Others like me, have to cobble something together quickly whether that is going to the thrift store and getting something appropriate, or actually sewing something “that’ll work”.

The next location is being planned for the a tea room or house in the city of Mukilteo, Washington which is just about 1 hour’s drive north of Seattle.  Miss Joan is at it again with her contacts, making some in-roads with an owner to see if they can handle a large group to come thru.  I can hardly wait!

I have a wonderful walking skirt I just bought from a fellow costumer.  I’ve been thinking of sewing the Gibson Girl blouse that I saw on the Folkwear Patterns site.  (See my previous blog entry about this: https://situseattle.wordpress.com/page/2/ )
Since I already have the lace and the batiste, I should be able to sew this pretty well.  My next challenge is to have my sewing machine serviced so that the stitches won’t be wonky when I sew something so fine.

The Tea Party is being planned for early February so that we might be able to coincide with Valentine’s Day.  Wanna come with us?  Are you anywhere within driving range of the Seattle area?  We’d love to have you along for the day!  If you enjoy our company, perhaps you’d like to join in the fun regularly by registering for a mere $10 per year.

The $10 gives you hard copy of our newsletters (they are VERY pretty I must say!) as well as a discount to any of our large events that Somewhere in Time, Unlimited plans.  There are as many as 4 formally orchestrated events, but there are a number of simplier events and fun/free events you can participate in during the rest of the year.  I post these out to the website under 2 tabs: “Upcoming Events” and “Dress-up Opportunities”.  Hop out to: www.SITUSeattle.com  or  www.CostumingInSeattle.com (if that helps you remember it more readily.  They both end up at the same place.  There is also a downloadable application form which you can print off and then send in with your check.

Looking forward to seeing you here in costume in the lush and green NW corner of the great United States!  Auntie Rita
